Zoom

What is Zoom?

Zoom is an online video conferencing tool. Catholic Revival Ministries utilizes Zoom to host live training sessions for our online courses.

What do I need to use Zoom?

You will need a web-accessible device (computer, laptop, smart phone, tablet) with a built-in or connected webcam. Zoom can be utilized on most modern devices. For details, see Zoom’s system requirements.

Do I have to install anything to use Zoom?

Yes. A unique Zoom link will be provided to you (or your group host) for each of your training sessions. The first time you click one of these links, it will automatically prompt you to download and install the Zoom program or app. This can be done simply by clicking the link that pops up in this prompt. For this reason, it is recommended that you log in to Zoom at least 10 minutes before your first training session to allow extra time for installation. See the video below for a walk-through of the installation process.

I’ve never used Zoom before. Is it hard?

Not at all! There are a few controls to acquaint yourself with, such as muting/unmuting your audio and video, display options, and the chat feature. Aside from this, you mainly just need to click the link to your training session and the program will do the rest!

Best practices for using Zoom:

  • Choose to tune in from a location with minimal background noise.

  • Position yourself facing a light source, such as a window, to make sure you are visible on screen.

  • If you are completing a course as an individual (rather than a family or group), have headphones on-hand – these sometimes provide the best sound quality.
